When you see three red lights or RROD flashes red light on the Xbox power button then you know that the Xbox has experienced a hardware failure. Sometimes this problem can be solved by just switching on and off the Xbox several times. When the console flashes three red lights, then it's time to repair the console.
There are various problems that you may encounter while using Xbox 360 and most common among them is RROD.
Problem 1: Xbox 360 flashes one red light on the ring of light.
This indicates the hardware problem in XBOX. This occurs usually when there is a hardware failure. To repair your console from this ring of death you can try few steps:
1. First switch off the Xbox and then disconnect all the pluggings.and then again connect the plugging back to its right places and then switch on the power supply to the console. This fix works in more than 80% cases.
2. If you have the Xbox hard disc drive attached to the console then turns off the power supply. Then, remove the hard disc and turn on the console without the disc. Check if XBOX works fine or look for any errors. If there isn't any error then switch off the box and then reattach the hard disc. Then you can cross check with the hard drive attach and removed to check if there is any error while the drive is still attached.
3. If there is an Xbox Memory Unit plugged in to the console then switch off the console and remove the MU. Turn on the console again test for any error. If there is no error then you can turn off the console and reinsert the MU. You can also test by inserting the MU and then removing to check if there is any error while the MU is still inserted.
4. If you still experience problems then you will have to contact the Xbox customer care to resolve the issues.
Problem 2: Xbox 360 flashes two red lights on the ring light
This can also caused due to increased internal temperature. Check for the temperature and immediately switch off the console or it may result in overheating. After switching it off try following steps to solve the problem:
1. First let the Xbox cool down properly which may take several hours. Avoid turning on the console when it is hot.
2. Ventilation should be adequate in the console and then should verify that the fans are working properly.
3. If you still suffer from the flashing of red light problem then you ought to contact the customer service.
Problem 3: Xbox flashes four red lights on the ring of light. This problem occurs when the audio visual cable is not inserted properly to the Xbox 360. Sometimes this occurs when the console is not able to detect the cable. Usually these problems occur when the console doesn't have a high definition multimedia interface AV port.
